IDAS tournament winners announced

The winners of this year’s International Debate Academy Slovenia (IDAS) Tournament in Ljubljana have been announced: First came John Sadek and Jessica Bullock from Vermont, second were Filip Dobranic and Maja Cimerman from Slovenia (currently European champions in ESL). The other two teams who debated in the finals were Anna England-Kerr and Crt Podlogar from Lubljana as well as Goran Jankuloski and Pedrag Pevicevic from Belgrade.

Anne Valkering chaired the final debate, alongside with her were judging John Hampson (British Council), Loke Wing Fatt (Singapore), TJ Senamngern (Thailand) and Maja Nenadovic (Netherlands).

The motions:

Round 1: This house would require migrants wishing to have European citizenship to pass language and value tests.

Round 2: This House would return national treasures to their country of origin

Round 3: This House believes that adoption agencies that receive state funding should give priority to same sex couples and infertile couples.

Round 4: This House would require large online social networks to be controlled democratically by their users.

Round 5: This House would refuse to negotiate with kidnappers and hijackers.

Roiund 6: This House believes that Roma should be recognized as the first transnational minority in the European Union.

Quarters: This house believes that Arabic nations should stop selling oil to France until it removes restrictions on Islamic dress.

Semis: This house believes that the ECB should have veto power over member states budgets

Finals: This house believes that the free market does not make the workers free.

    Ein ganz großes Lob an die tollen IDAS-Ausrichter! Workshop und Turnier waren super.
    Und ich hab gerne unser deutsches Fähnchen hoch gehalten.
    Und das erfolgreich: Halbfinalistin und 3. bester Redner des Tabs mit 79,16 Punkten.
    Also ein Appell an die deutschen Debattierer da draussen: Nächstes Jahr – mitkommen! 🙂
