Merhaba, teşekkür ederim, iyi akşamlar – these words are Turkish and mean Hello, Thank you and Good evening. They might be helpful when you are planning on travelling to this year’s Ankara Open which will be held by METU Debating Society from 25 to 27 March. This will be the third time the open is going to be hosted at the Middle East Technical University (METU) in the Turkish capital. The convenors want to raise the standards, as Emrecan Buyuruçu from the org comm revealed to Achte Minute: In addition to a top judging pool, the convenors offer accommodation in a five-star hotel. On top of all that, they have gathered an adjudication team that comprises some of the best debaters of the world: Fiona Prowse, since earlier this year WUDC winner from Australia (together with her team mate Victor Finkel), is chief adjudicator of the Ankara Open. Her deputies are Chris Croke (also from Australia, WUDC winner of the previous year), Simone van Elk (Secretary to the WUDC Council, DCA of this year’s Galway Euros, EUDC and WUDC finalist in the category ESL), Engin Arikan (winner of Koç Open 2010, top speaker of Istanbul Open in the same year) and Jack Watson (finalist and third best speaker at Amsterdam Euros). Five-star hotels and a top adjudication core have their price: reg fees are 75 Euros per person. More detailed info is available on the Facebook page, the homepage and via busra [dot] ferligul [at] gmail [dot] com. Registration is open now, a form may be found on the homepage.
