Wanna combine boat sailing, wine tasting and debating? Then you’re in for the International Debate Camp (IDC) in Porto, Portugal which will be held from July 17 to 24. The motto reads “learning, sharing, competing”. Ary Ferreira Da Cunha from the Sociedade de Debates Universidade do Porto (SdUdP) explains what this stands for: “Learning learning will be fostered not only by the trainings and the training debates, but also by lectures provided by faculty members, and will have emphasis on the theme “empowering citizenship”; sharing will be promoted in every aspect of the debate camp starting from registration where you will be asked to share your views on democracy and citizenship related issues that will generate an online debate even before the event starts; competition will not be contained in debates, it will be a part of all camp as you will become part of one of five teams that will compete against each other on small outdoor games, on the training debates and other challenges that we will propose you.”

The camp cost 150 Euros per capita. Included in the fees are not only the camp and training, but also “an amazing and diverse social program that includes lots of partying and one day of guided tours, wine tasting and boat sailing; a competitive tournament in the end of the week; good food and a wonderful scenario”, as Ary promotes the IDC. Registration is open now. More information is available from the SdUdP homepage and on the Facebook page of the event.

Faculty members are no other than Maja Nenadovic (founder and co-founder of various deb socs across Europe), Filip Muki Dobranić (EUDC champion 2010, WUDC runner-up 2011, both ESL), Leela Koenig (chief adjudicator EUDC 2010, deputy chief adjudicator EUDC 2009), Rhydian Morgan (teacher at various international debate camps across Europe) and Anne Valkering (WUDC champion 2008, ESL, convenor of Amsterdam Euros 2010).
