Less than four months until the worldwide debating circuit assembles in Gaborone, Botswana for the World Universities Debating Championships (WUDC, a.k.a. Worlds) 2011 from 27 December 2010 until 4 January 2011! But before you open your new textbooks and work on your Setswana, the official language besides English, stop and check the technicalities. Free Debating League founded

On Saturday, August 21, thirteen clubs founded the Free Debating League (FDL). The FDL is a decentralized association of debating tournaments aimed at encouraging tournaments outside the ZEIT DEBATTEN series. At the end of each season the most successful clubs and speakers will be acknowledged. The general assembly of VDCH (Association of Debating Societies at Universities) received the initiative with a broad majority. This weekend's tournament at the Baltic Sea: Boddencup 2010Greifswald at the Northern shore of the Baltic Sea is the venue of the Boddencup, named after the bay near the town. The Societas augendae et colendae liberae orationis Greifswald invited debaters from all German speaking regions for the second time. Today, 28 teams from Aix-la-Chapelle, Berlin, Göttingen, Halle, Kiel, Jena, Magdeburg, Mainz, Münster, Potsdam, Rostock, Stuttgart and Vienna fought in four preliminary rounds, Sunday will stage another pre-round, semi-finals and the final. VDCH-Turnierserie hat ersten Sieger 2010: Debattierclub Greifswald gewinnt ZEIT DEBATTE in Stuttgart!

Sarah Jaglitz und Rafael Heinisch vom Debattierclub Greifswald haben die erste ZEIT DEBATTE des Jahres 2010 gewonnen. Im Stuttgarter Wilhelmspalais konnten sich die beiden am Sonntagnachmittag aus der Eröffnenden Regierung heraus gegen Tim Richter und Gudrun Lux vom Debattierclub Bonn (Eröffnende Opposition), Moritz Niehaus und Clemens Lechner von der Debattiergesellschaft Jena (Schließende Regierung) und Patrick Ehmann und Farid Schwuchow von der Berlin Debating Union (Schließende Opposition) durchsetzen. Zum besten Redner kürte die Ehrenjury Clemens Lechner. ZEIT DEBATTE Stuttgart: Der Break

Die fünf Vorrunden der ersten ZEIT DEBATTE des Jahres 2010 sind vorüber und der Break ist verkündet! Bereits am Freitagabend wurde die erste Vorrunde ausgetragen. 36 Zweierteams aus VDCH-Clubs debattierten in 9 Räumen das Thema "Dieses Haus fordert die Kindergartenpflicht!" Anschließend schwärmten gut hundert Debattiererinnen und Debattieren aus, um das Stuttgarter Nachtleben zu erkunden oder vergnügten sich in der jugendherbergseigenen Bar bei Bier, Wein und Cocktails. Am Samstag ging es früh los, denn vier Vorrunden standen an. Erst hieß es "Dieses Haus würde die Bundeswehr wieder nur zur eigenen Landesverteidigung einsetzen", dann "Dieses Haus würde die nicht medizinisch indizierte Beschneidung verbieten".
