The Open Category<\/h3>\n
Sydney A (Edward Miller<\/strong>, Nick Chung<\/strong>) won the final in the Open Category. They debated the motion “This House believes that humanitarian organisations should, and should be allowed to, give funding, resources or services to illegal armed groups when this is made a condition for access to vulnerable civilians.” and won against\u00a0Oxford A (Patrick Bateman<\/strong>, Natasha Rachman<\/strong>) in Opening Government,\u00a0BPP A \u00a0(Steven Rajavinothan<\/strong>, Michael O’Dwyer<\/strong>) in Opening Opposition and\u00a0Harvard A (Bo Seo<\/strong>, Fanelesibonge Mashwama<\/strong>) in Closing Opposition. The final was adjudicated by Shafiq Bazari<\/strong> (chair),\u00a0Dominic Guinane<\/strong>, Amelia McLeod<\/strong>, Arinah Najwa<\/strong>, Danique van Koppenhagen<\/strong>, Karin Merckens<\/strong>, Brett Frazer<\/strong>, Simon Tunnicliffe<\/strong> and Tim Andrew<\/strong>.<\/div>\n

English as a Second Language<\/h3>\n

CUHK A (Samuel Chan Kai Yui<\/strong>, Benson Lam Chak-Hin<\/strong>) won the final in the category English as a second language (ESL). They debated the motion “This House believes that liberal democracies that overthrow the governments of other states should impose power-sharing, even when this severely overrides or delays democratic representation.” and won against\u00a0University of Dhaka A (Rishad Sharif<\/strong>, Raiha Nawal<\/strong>)\u00a0<\/b>in Closing Opposition,\u00a0Stockholm A (Gustaf Lundgren<\/strong>, Johan Bage<\/strong>) in Opening Opposition and\u00a0Universitas Indonesia A (Roderick Jonathan Martua<\/strong>, Boby Andika Ruitang<\/strong>) in Closing Government. The ESL-final was adjudicated by Madeline Schultz<\/strong> (chair),\u00a0Daniel Swain<\/strong>, Manos Moschopoulos<\/strong>, Fred Cowell<\/strong>, Sarah Balakrishnan<\/strong>, Lucian Tan<\/strong>, Seb Templeton<\/strong>, Tomas Beerthuis<\/strong> and Harish Natarajan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

English as a Foreign Language<\/h3>\n

The champions of the category English as a foreign language (EFL) is the team from Adam Mickiewicz (Stanislaw Stefaniak<\/strong>,\u00a0Dawid Bartkowiak<\/strong>). They debated the motion “This House believes that\u00a0progressive politicians in conservative societies should pander to bigots, racists, hardline conservatives and others with regressive views in attempting to win elections.” and won against\u00a0MIPT A (Sergie Bazylik<\/strong>, Daria Zelenina<\/strong>) in Opening Government,\u00a0SNUDA A (Sangwoo Park<\/strong>, Kyungmi Lee<\/strong>) in Closing Government and\u00a0Binus International (Melissa Irene<\/strong>, Wilson Salim<\/strong>) in Closing Opposition. Potsdam A, Moritz Kirchner<\/strong> and Mathias Hamann<\/strong>, broke into the semifinals of the EFL-category. They debated the motion “This House would ban its citizens from visiting illiberal states whose economies depend on tourism.” in Closing Opposition and unfortunatly lost against\u00a0Seoul NUDA A and\u00a0MIPT A. John-Thomas Eltringham<\/strong> (Berlin) judged one of the EFL-semifinals and a\u00a0Partial Double Octofinal.\u00a0<\/span>Rebecca Irvine<\/strong> (Berlin) broke as well as an adjudicator and judged an EFL-semifinal and one of the octofinals. Patrick Ehmann<\/strong> (Berlin) judged one of the ESL-quarterfinals and a quarterfinal in the open category. Dessislava Kirova<\/strong> (Berlin) adjudicated an ESL-semifinal and a\u00a0Partial Double Octofinal. Kai Dittmann<\/strong> (Berlin) was in the\u00a0panel of an octofinal as well.<\/span><\/p>\n
