They won over <em>Tilbury House Minions<\/em> (<strong>Agnes Putri<\/strong> &amp; <strong>Leonard M\u00fcnstermann,\u00a0<\/strong>Cologne) in Opening Government, <em>There is but one God and He is not called Jesus<\/em> (<strong>Dan Lahav<\/strong> &amp;\u00a0<strong>Muhammad<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Asadullah Khan,\u00a0<\/strong>Tel Aviv\/Cambridge) in Closing Government and <em>Cardiff A<\/em> (<strong>Raphael Hill<\/strong> &amp; <strong>Calan Eskandar<\/strong>) in Closing Opposition on the motion &#8220;<em>THBT the Democratic Party should take on a much more centre-leftist position and support a mass redistribution of wealth agenda<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>The final was judged by <strong>Harish Natarajan<\/strong> in chair, together with <strong>Sharmila Parmanand<\/strong>, <strong>Nika Jelendorf<\/strong>, <strong>Samuel Chan<\/strong> and <strong>Duncan Crowe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Best speaker was Teck Wei Tan with an average of 85.4 speaker points.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_30544\" style=\"width: 201px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30544\" class=\" wp-image-30544\" src=\"https:\/\/www.achteminute.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/14522688_1251964381544319_2799705112631823664_n.jpg\" alt=\"Tudor Musat and Viva Avasthi, the winners of the Novice final - \u00a9Tudor Musat\" width=\"191\" height=\"272\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-30544\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tudor Musat and Viva Avasthi, the winners of the Novice final &#8211; \u00a9 private<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The novice final was won by <em>Cambridge AM<\/em> (<strong>Tudor Musat<\/strong> &amp; <strong>Viva Avasthi<\/strong>) in Closing Government. They debated against <em>Sorbonne ONU (team 2)<\/em> (<strong>Anais Fiault<\/strong> &amp; <strong>Olga Kiav<\/strong>, Paris) in Opening Government, <em>DJ YOLO SWAG 2015<\/em> (<strong>Dina Baiche<\/strong> &amp; <strong>Jacques Li)<\/strong> in Opening Opposition and <em>Nanterre-ENS Paris Saclay<\/em> (<strong>Xavier Olessa Daragon<\/strong> &amp; <strong>Cai Fangyuan<\/strong>) in Closing Opposition on the motion &#8220;<em>THW oppose human immortality&#8221;.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"_5wd4 _1nc7 direction_ltr _2cnu\">\u00a0The novice final was chaired by Nika Jelendorf together with\u00a0<strong>Miriana Muntean, Susanna Ulinski, Samuel Chan <\/strong>and<strong> Ary Ferreira da Cunha.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"_5wd4 _1nc7 direction_ltr _2cnu\">Tudor Musat was announced best novice speaker with an average of 75.79 speaker points.<\/div>\n<p>The Break:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Bailey orders Asian Teck-a-Wei (Teck Wei Tan &amp; Bailey Reid, Oxford\/KC London) 14 team points<\/li>\n<li>There is but one God and He is not called Jesus (Dan Lahav &amp;\u00a0Muhammad\u00a0Asadullah Khan, Tel Aviv\/Cambridge) 13 team points<\/li>\n<li>Snails are not a food (<strong>Lucy Lester<\/strong> &amp; <strong>Anna Vasyleva,\u00a0<\/strong>Maastricht) 11 team points<\/li>\n<li>Frankenstein (<strong>Tjark W\u00fcster<\/strong> &amp;\u00a0<strong>Carlota Noguerol<\/strong>, Cologne) 10 team points<\/li>\n<li>Cardiff A (Raphael Hill &amp; Calan Eskandar) 10 team points<\/li>\n<li>Tilbury House Minions (Agnes Putri &amp; Leonard M\u00fcnstermann, Cologne) 10 team points<\/li>\n<li>#Calexit2017 (<strong>Ingo Bandhauer<\/strong> &amp; <strong>Paul Reiter, <\/strong>Vienna) 10 team points<\/li>\n<li>Les viennoiseries (<strong>Dariusz Klett<\/strong> &amp; <strong>Vinicius Maerschner Bremer<\/strong>, Vienna) 9 team points<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The novice break:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Cambridge AM (Tudor Musat &amp; Viva Avasthi) 8 team points<\/li>\n<li>Nanterre-ENS Paris Saclay (Xavier Olessa Daragon &amp; Cai Fangyuan) 7 team points<\/li>\n<li>DJ YOLO SWAG 2015 (Dina Baiche &amp; Jacques Li ) 6 team points<\/li>\n<li>Sorbonne ONU (team 2) (Anais Fiault &amp; Olga Kiav, Paris) 5 team points<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Centrale Open took place on the 9th and 10th of December 2016 and was organized by <strong>Claire Mayer<\/strong>, <strong>Mehdi Thomas<\/strong> and <strong>Aion Feehan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The CA team consisted out of Sharmila Parmanand, <strong>Sella Nevo\u00a0<\/strong>and Harish Natarajan. The best VDCH team was Tilbury House Minions, making it into the grand final. Overall it was a very successful competition for VDCH teams, having four of them making the break.<\/p>\n<p>The motions:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Rd 1<\/strong>:\u00a0THBT states should ban the positive depictions of former oppressive leaders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rd 2<\/strong>:\u00a0THBT when allocating resources to their children, poor families should allocate most of their resources to support the most talented child in the family.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rd 3<\/strong>: THW grant human rights to any machine that passes the &#8220;Extended Turing Test&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><em>Info slide: An Artificial Intelligence machine (such as a robot) passes the &#8220;Extended Turing Test&#8221; if through extended conversation a human being cannot distinguish between the machine and an actual human.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rd 4<\/strong>:\u00a0THBT African-American parents should teach their children to distrust and avoid contact with the police.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rd 5<\/strong>:\u00a0THW bail out failing established newspapers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SF<\/strong>:\u00a0THW use the Inquisitorial system in the Criminal Justice System (as opposed to the Adversarial one).<\/p>\n<p><strong>NF<\/strong>:\u00a0THW oppose human immortality.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GF<\/strong>:\u00a0THBT the Democratic Party should take on a much more centre-leftist position and support a mass redistribution of wealth agenda.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>hh.\/lok.<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The team Bailey orders asian Teck-a-Wei (Teck Wei Tan\u00a0&amp;\u00a0Bailey Reid,\u00a0Oxford\/KC London)\u00a0won the final of Centrale Open 2016 from Opening Opposition.
