After nine preliminary rounds, two days of elimination rounds and three finals, the winners of this years WUDC have been determined.<\/p>\n

EFL Champions 2017: Belgrade C \u00a9DutchWUDC<\/p><\/div>\n

In the EFL Final, Belgrade C (Milo\u0161 Marjanovi\u0107<\/strong>,\u00a0Teodora Re\u0161etar<\/strong>) took the win via unanimous decision against BINUS A (Stella Emada Bestio<\/strong>, Willem Chua<\/strong>) in Opening Government, SKT A (Konrad G\u00fctschow<\/strong>, Philipp Schirmer<\/strong>) in Opening Opposition and SUFE B (Jinting Liu<\/strong>, Miranda Shen Yan<\/strong>) in Closing Government on the motion “THBT the European left should promote a hard left agenda, including the nationalisation of major industry, very high tax rates on the wealthy and expansion of the welfare state”.\u00a0<\/em>The EFL final was judged by\u00a0Syed Saddiq<\/strong>, Michael Dunn Goekjian<\/strong>, Jodie O’Neill<\/strong>, Crash Wigley<\/strong>, Duncan Crowe,<\/strong> Guy Miscampbell<\/strong>, Gavin Illsley<\/strong>, Adnan Muttalib<\/strong> with\u00a0Amelia McLeod<\/strong> in chair.<\/p>\n

ESL Final 2017 – \u00a9DutchWUDC<\/p><\/div>\n

The ESL final was debated by Malaya A (Patrick Cheang<\/strong>,\u00a0Vinodhan Kuppusamy<\/strong>) in Opening Government, APU A (Eric Onuoha<\/strong>,\u00a0Ayinde Sadiq<\/strong>) in Opening Opposition, Leiden C (Floris Holstege<\/strong>, Lisa Schallenberg<\/strong>) in Closing Government and Tel Aviv B (Noam Dahan<\/strong>, Tom Manor<\/strong>) in Closing Opposition on the motion “THW force all news organisations to operate as non-profits”<\/em>. The adjudicator panel consisted of Hyewon Rho<\/strong>, Yashodhan Nair<\/strong>, Veenu Goswami<\/strong>, Abigail McCarthy<\/strong>, Lewis Iwu<\/strong>, Joshua Bailey<\/strong>, Edward Miller<\/strong>, Cliodhna Ni Cheileachair<\/strong> with\u00a0Madeline Schultz<\/strong> in the chair. The ESL final was decided on a 4-3 split between APU A and Tel Aviv B in favor of Tel Aviv B.<\/p>\n

Open Champions: USU A – \u00a9DutchWUDC<\/p><\/div>\n

The winners of the Grand Final are USU A (Emma Johnstone<\/strong>,\u00a0James Leeder<\/strong>). They took the victory in Opening Government against Yale A (Evan Lynyak<\/strong>,\u00a0Henry Zhang<\/strong>) in Opening Opposition, Oxford A (Raffy Marshall<\/strong>, Sophie Large<\/strong>) in Closing Government and Bates A (Matt Davis<\/strong>,\u00a0Zoe Seaman-Grant<\/strong>) in Closing Opposition. The motion was “This House would apply universal jurisdiction to crimes against the environment”.\u00a0<\/em>The final was judged by\u00a0Omer Nevo<\/strong> as the chair, together with Michael Dunn Goekjian, Jodie O’Neill, Karin Merckens<\/strong>, Yair Har-Oz<\/strong>, Enting Lee<\/strong>, Olivia Hall<\/strong>, James Hardy <\/strong>and Buzz Klinger<\/strong>. The Grand Final can be watched on Youtube.<\/p>\n

The finals of two other speaking competitions took place during the last day as well: The Masters final was won by “Ed and Gav’s Excellent Adventure” (Ed Miller<\/strong> & Gavin Illsley<\/strong>); the winner of the Public Speaking competition is\u00a0Lucia Cortijo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Best speaker Raffy Marshall – \u00a9DutchWUDC<\/p><\/div>\n

The last day also highlighted the best speakers in each language category:<\/p>\n

The best speaker of WUDC 2017 is Raffy Marshall from Oxford A with a speaker average of 83.7 speaker points.<\/p>\n

The best ESL speaker is\u00a0Ameera Natasha Moore<\/strong> from IIUM A with a speaker average of\u00a081.4 speaker points.<\/p>\n

Ognjen Miladinovi\u0107<\/strong> was declared best EFL speaker, as well as sixth best ESL speaker, with an average of\u00a080.3 speaker points.<\/p>\n

The Alfred “Tuna” Sneider memorial award for the highest ranking team of an institution, that competed the first time at Worlds went to Taylor’s A, who made the ESL semi finals.<\/p>\n
