The Maynooth Open 2017 was won by\u00a0Men I’d shift if I weren’t a misandrist\u00a0<\/em>(Tim Squirrell<\/strong>, Richeal N\u00ed Laoghaire<\/strong>;\u00a0Edinburgh\/UCD L&H) in Closing Government\u00a0in an open motion. Opening Government Minorities are people not extensions<\/em>\u00a0(Lorna Staines<\/strong>, Mark Finn<\/strong>;\u00a0Trinity Hist) set it as “THB the usa should pay reparations to african americans“. <\/em>The other two teams in the final were Nothing wrong with two men crying or taking valium<\/em> (Eoin O’Sullivan<\/strong>, Chris Costigan<\/strong>; Cork\/<\/strong>Trinity Phil) in Opening Opposition and \u00a0We all need somebody to Leon<\/em> (Aodhan Peelo<\/strong>, Leon Langdon<\/strong>; UCD L&H) as Closing Government.<\/p>\n

The final was judged by Owen Mooney<\/strong> (chair), Steven James Barr<\/strong>, Talia Bin Yusuf<\/strong>, Ruth Lennon <\/strong>and Doireann O’Brien<\/span><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The novice final was won by\u00a0Gets your Brits out for the lads<\/em> (Caoimhe Donnelly<\/strong>, Cora Keegan<\/strong>; UCD) on the motion “THW end Irish neutrality”. They debated against\u00a0I call SJB Dad, why does he call him daddy?<\/em> (Conor O’Malley<\/strong>, Clare Elwell<\/strong>; Trinity) ,\u00a0How come when men do it its toxic masculinity but when women do it, its womens euros<\/em> (Ella McLoughlin<\/strong>, Rachael Mullally<\/strong>; UCD L&H) \u00a0and\u00a0Beauty and The Hack<\/em> (Maeve Claffey<\/strong>, Shane Kenneally<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Izzy Sweeney\u00a0<\/strong>adjudicated the novice final as chair with\u00a0Thalia Bin Yusuf, Beth Mallen<\/strong>, Catherine Prasifka<\/strong> and Dawid Bartkowiak <\/strong>in the panel.<\/p>\n

Best speaker (Yes. The trophy is a sword) – \u00a9 Private<\/p><\/div>\n

Best Speaker of the tournament and therefore recipient of the sword trophy was Tim Squirrell with an average of 81.6 speaker points. The best novice speaker was\u00a0Leon Langdon with an average of 78.6 speaker points.<\/p>\n

CA team of the tournament were\u00a0M\u00e9abh McMahon<\/strong>, Sam Browne<\/strong>, Sheraz Qureshi<\/strong> and Rory O’Sullivan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The tournament was organized by the MU Literary & Debating Society<\/strong> and was convened by Damien Claffey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

When she arrives, she is informed that she will be required to wear a headscarf, and that the attendees will be segregated by gender with men at the front and women at the rear.<\/em><\/p>\n

THB that when presented with this scenario, non-Muslim, progressive female politicians should refuse to speak at the event.islam<\/p>\n

Semi Final:<\/strong>Infoslide 1: \u2018Mother and baby homes\u2019 were an institution ran by the Catholic Church in Ireland until 1970\u2019s. Unmarried mothers were forced into these homes, performed unpaid labour, and had their newborn children forcibly taken from them, to be sold for adoption if possible. At a former mother and baby home named Tuam, the remains of over 700 children were uncovered in a septic tank. They died as a result of neglect from the nuns.<\/em><\/p>\n

Infoslide 2: On her deathbed, a nun who was active in running a mother and baby home apologises, and sincerely pleads you for forgiveness. You are alone with her, and no-one will ever know what you tell her.<\/em><\/p>\n
