Glasgow Ancients<\/strong><\/p>\n The team\u00a0Iconic Misandry\u00a0<\/em>(Cl\u00edodhna N\u00ed Ch\u00e9ileachair<\/strong>, Srishti Krishnamoorthy-Cavell<\/strong>; UCD\/Cambridge) was victorious in the final on the motion “THW grant legal personhood to major ecological entities (eg. the Amazon rainforest, the Great Barrier Reef etc.).” They won\u00a0as Closing Government over 2 indy 2ref: edinburgh drift<\/em> (Oskar Avery<\/strong>, Chris Paschali<\/strong>; Newcastle) in Opening Government, My teammate didn’t want any puns, but Im feeling quite ADAM-ant <\/em>(Adam Stairs<\/strong>, Aodhan Peelo<\/strong>, UCD) in Opening Opposition and Already Broke (Up)<\/em> (Lucia Arce<\/strong>, Jure Hederih<\/strong>; Sheffield\/Oxford) in Closing Opposition.<\/p>\n The Final was judged by\u00a0Eilidh McCreath<\/strong> in chair together with\u00a0Nicola Harvey<\/strong>, Nishith Hegde,<\/strong> Doug Jack<\/strong>, Elliot Porter<\/strong>, M\u00e9abh McMahon<\/strong>, Camilo Ruiz<\/strong>, and\u00a0Nick Zervoudis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Pro-Am final was won by\u00a0Edinburgh Rash and rationality<\/em> (Anita Carroll<\/strong>, Pietro Pomella<\/strong>). They debated against\u00a0Edinburgh Fried and credulous<\/em> (Dimitri Pollard<\/strong>, Wan Adzhar Faiq Bin Adzlan<\/strong>), Durham Series of unfortunate extension<\/em> (George Goddard<\/strong>, Jai Khajuria<\/strong>) and St. Andrews Spud<\/em> (Louise Carle<\/strong>, Conor Tully<\/strong>) with the motion being “THBT the NAACP should refuse donations from large corporations that do not actively further African American liberation”.<\/p>\n Glasgow Women’s<\/strong><\/p>\n Winners of Glasgow Women’s – \u00a9 Juliette Barnes<\/p><\/div>\n The Glasgow Women’s final was won by\u00a0Doug’s better halves<\/em> (Erin Kyle<\/strong>, Juliette Barnes<\/strong>; Glasgow\/UCD L&H) in Opening Government. They debated against Mannsfield Snark<\/em> (Maddy Churchhouse<\/strong>, Kerrie Danaher<\/strong>; Edinburgh) in Opening Opposition,\u00a0Nasty Women<\/em> (Fiona<\/strong> Brittle<\/strong>, Leanne Hosie<\/strong>; Strathclyde\/Aberdeen) in Closing Government and\u00a0Random Oxford fresher, don’t forget the speaks bump\u00a0<\/em>(Cl\u00edodhna N\u00ed Ch\u00e9ileachair & Ella McLoughlin<\/strong>, UCD) on the motion “When a dominant political party consistently achieves majorities with weak opposition, THW break up that dominant political party e.g. South African ANC and the UK conservative party”.<\/p>\n Cl\u00edodhna N\u00ed Ch\u00e9ileachair was best speaker of both Glasgow Ancients (83 speaker points average) and Glasgow Women’s (82.33 speaker points average).<\/p>\n Best novice speaker was Felix Culas from Durham with an average of 76.4 speaker points.<\/p>\n Lucia Arce was best ESL speaker at Glasgow Ancients with an average of 81.3 speaker points.<\/p>\n CAs of Ancients\u00a0were Nishith Hegde,\u00a0Eoin MacLachlan<\/strong> and\u00a0Kez Exley<\/strong> while Lucy Murphy<\/strong> and Hannah Tyndall<\/strong> CAed the women’s tournament.<\/p>\n The tournaments was convened by Doug Jack<\/strong>, Eilidh Sheach<\/strong> and N\u00f3emie Katerina Gauthier<\/strong> with the Glasgow University Union with Skye Brettell<\/strong> and Ailsa Jones<\/strong> functioning as equity officers.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Break:<\/strong><\/p>\n Open:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Pro-Am:<\/strong><\/p>\n Women’s: Unfortunately, the fifth-breaking team York<\/em> had to leave before the semi-finals which allowed Mansfield Snark<\/em> to break.<\/p>\n Ancients Judges:<\/strong><\/p>\n Dee Courtney<\/strong>, Julie Davis<\/strong>, Kez Exley, Ruairidh Ferguson<\/strong>, No\u00e9mie Gauthier, Nicola Harvey<\/strong>, Nish Hegde, Douglas Jack<\/strong>, Christine Jiang<\/strong>, Noah Kidron-Style<\/strong>, Erin Kyle, Eoin MacLachlan, Eilidh McCreath, Camilo Ruiz<\/strong>, Abigail van Schalkwyk<\/strong>, Nick Zervoudis<\/p>\n The Motions:<\/strong><\/p>\n Ancients Rd 1<\/strong>: Info-Slide:\u00a0An eternity clause is an element of a constitution, such as the status of the state as a democracy, which cannot be amended through any means.<\/em><\/p>\n THS the use of Eternity Clauses.<\/p>\n Rd 2:<\/strong>\u00a0THBT the feminist movement should focus campaigns on the harms of gender roles to all genders, as opposed to the relative disadvantage of women, transgender and non-binary individuals in comparison to men<\/p>\n Rd 3:<\/strong>\u00a0Info Slide: Moral relativism accepts context as a relevant factor in morality, such as specific sets of “cultural” or “religious” values.
