The grand final of the first Delft Open ever was won by Leiden A(rrogant)<\/em> (Floris Holstege<\/strong>, Roel Becker<\/strong>) from Opening Opposition on the Motion\u00a0This house would introduce a Social Credit System in liberal democracies<\/em>.<\/p>\n

They debated agains\u00a0UDS: Sharpay and Ryan\u00a0<\/em>(Pieter van der Veere<\/strong>, Angela Portocarrero<\/span><\/strong> – Utrecht<\/span>) in Opening Government,\u00a0David en Simone\u00a0<\/em>(Simone Landman<\/strong> – Trivium, David Metz<\/strong> – Leiden) in Closing Government and Brandeis ST\u00a0<\/em>(Ravi Simon<\/strong>, Sagie Tvizer<\/span><\/strong>) in Closing Opposition.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The final was chaired by Lennart van Laake<\/strong>, who adjudicated together with Daan Welling<\/strong>, Harish Natarajan<\/strong>, Linsey Keur<\/strong> and Helena Hecke<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Winner of the Pro-Am final was\u00a0Bonaparte: Zeno en Lana<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>(Zeno Glastra van Loon<\/strong>, Lana Moss<\/strong>) in Closing Opposition.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

They won over Mona Lisa<\/em> (Mona van der Pas<\/strong>, Lisa Eijgenhuijsen<\/strong> – Roosevelt Middelburg) in Opening Government,\u00a0Almelo A: da’s pech, fiets weg\u00a0<\/span><\/em>(Daan Spackler<\/strong> – Trivium, Mike Weltevrede<\/strong> – Cicero) and\u00a0Make the Netherlands Spain again\u00a0<\/span><\/em>(Myrta Hollander<\/span><\/strong>,<\/span> Beatriz Melendez<\/span><\/strong> – Leiden) on the motion\u00a0This house would abolish prison sentences for all juvenile offenders<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Pro-Am final was judged by Helena Hecke in chair, who adjudicated together with\u00a0Albert Santoso\u00a0<\/strong>and Samuel Scheuer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Floris Holstege and Roel Becker were shared best speaker with an average of 80.<\/p>\n

Best novice speaker of the tournament was Lana Moss with an average of 75.2.<\/p>\n

The tournament was the first tournament ever organized in Delft by the\u00a0TU Delft Debating Club\u00a0<\/strong>and it was convened by Niels Buijssen<\/strong> and Karan Suresh Narayan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      Info Slide: A Social Credit System combines a wide variety of indicators to produce a rating that reflects your usefulness to society.<\/em>
      \nIndicators include, but are not limited to: propensity to give to charity, law-abidingness, holding a socially beneficial job, and civic and political engagement (e.g. voting).<\/em>
      \nThe indicators are controlled for socio-economic status. For instance, a nurse who voted would likely be deemed more useful than a corporate lawyer who goes on three holidays a year and gives nothing to charity. A higher Social Credit score gets expanded access to public services such as welfare, hospitals and schools. This System would still guarantee all citizens a social safety net.
