Konstantina Nathanail<\/strong> and Pegah Maham<\/strong> from the Berlin Debating Union have won the Bard College Berlin ProAm.<\/p>\n

The two from the team Constant Mayhem<\/em> convinced the jury as Opening Opposition to the motion \u201cThis House would prefer to live in a world in which genetic engineering of fetuses is possible and widely accessible.\u201d All three other teams in the final were from the Berlin Debating Union, too: Martian Law<\/em> (Marcel John<\/strong>, Martijn Roo<\/strong>) in Opening Government, BDU Huggator<\/em> (Kathrin Niederschuh<\/strong>, Jonas Huggins<\/strong>) in Closing Government and 2 carbs 1 dish<\/em> (El\u00e2 Marie Akay<\/strong>, Julian Stastny<\/strong>) in Closing Opposition.<\/p>\n

The final was adjudicated by Matthias Carcasona<\/strong> as well as the Chief Adjudicators Callyxx Peucker<\/strong> and Kristina Georgieva<\/strong>. The third Chief Adjudicator, Ilija Ivani\u0161evi\u0107<\/strong>, had to miss the final because of a flight.<\/p>\n

The tournament was the first to be organized at the Berlin branch of Bard College, a Liberal Arts College based in New York state. It was a Pro\/Am-tournament; the requirement for the \u201cAm\u201d status being that the speaker had not broken at an English language tournament before.<\/p>\n

The motions in overview:<\/p>\n

Round 1:<\/strong> This House would remove the option for out of court settlements for cases relating to sexual violence.<\/p>\n

Round 2:<\/strong> This House welcomes the rise of New Atheism (including an info slide).<\/p>\n

Round 3:<\/strong> This House would incentivize drug addicts to take long term birth control, including sterilization.<\/p>\n

Round 4: <\/strong>This House as a former East Berlin citizen would not request to see their [Stasi] file (including an info slide).<\/p>\n

Round 5:<\/strong> This House believes that the public television should make a 24\/7 reality TV channel documenting real life in prison.<\/p>\n

Final:<\/strong> This House would prefer to live in a world in which genetic engineering of fetuses is possible and widely accessible.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
