The top two speakers and champions of this year’s HWS IV: Aditya Dhar and Tejal Patwardhan – \u00a9 Eric Barnes<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n
The HWS IV 2018 was won by\u00a0Harvard DP <\/em>(Tejal Patwardhan,<\/strong>\u00a0Aditya Dhar<\/strong>) from Opening Government. They debated the final on the motion “This House believes that the state should curb assortative mating” against\u00a0Yale CP\u00a0<\/em>(Ko Lyn Cheang, Lorenzo Pinasco<\/b>) in Opening Opposition,\u00a0Brandeis\/Northeastern SS<\/em>\u00a0(Ravi Simon, Dennis Su<\/strong>) in\u00a0Closing Government, and\u00a0Rochester FO\u00a0<\/em>(Ben Frazer, Warish Orko<\/b>) in Closing\u00a0Opposition.<\/p>\n The final was chaired by Buzz Klinger\u00a0<\/b>with\u00a0Alexander Beaumont, Allie McGowan, Dan Yoon, Daniel Berman, Shani Bennett,<\/strong> and Steph White.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n The Novice Final of the tournament was won by Cornell CJ<\/em>\u00a0<\/i>(Carson Crane, Amaar Jeyasothy<\/b>) in Opening Opposition, on the motion “This House would allow the creation of Savior Siblings.” They debated against Harvard HR\u00a0<\/i>(Maya Razmi, Delaney Hurley<\/strong>)\u00a0in Opening Government, Hart House AN\u00a0<\/i>(Matt Aydin, Jonathan Nahmiach<\/strong>) in Closing Government, and\u00a0Patrick Henry BW<\/em>\u00a0(Gabe Blacklock, Hannah Westfallen<\/strong>) in Closing Opposition.<\/p>\n The round was chaired by Daniel Berman\u00a0<\/strong>with redacted, Nathaniel Carlsen, Graeme McGuire, Jan Hovden, <\/strong>and Emily Saeli <\/strong>in the panel.<\/p>\n The best speaker with an average of 82.67 was Aditya Dhar\u00a0from\u00a0Harvard DP. Harvard DP\u00a0<\/em>was the top seed and Aditya and Tejal were the top two speakers of the tournament. The CA team consisted of Dan Lahav, <\/strong>Stephanie White, Ameera Moore<\/strong>, and Fanele Mashwam<\/strong>a.<\/p>\n The tournament was organized by the\u00a0HWS Debate Team.
