In a final jugded by Aisling Tully<\/strong> (chair), Huyen Nguyen<\/strong>, Matt Hankin<\/strong>, Przemek Stolarski<\/strong>, Miri Muntean<\/strong>, Joona Suhonen<\/strong> and Seyoung Jeon<\/strong>, the team Trauma All-Stars<\/em> (Dawid Bartkowiak,<\/strong> Lucy Murphy<\/strong>) in Closing Government won the Munich Research Open 2019 against teams Bonaparte Zeno & Marike<\/em> (Marike Breed,<\/strong> Zeno Glastra van Loon<\/strong>) in Opening Government, Oxford BS<\/em> (Jack Solomon,<\/strong> Louisa Broeg<\/strong>) in Opening Opposition and Cyanide and Happiness<\/em> (Tin Pulji\u0107,<\/strong> Olja Bo\u0161njak<\/strong>) in Closing Opposition. They debated the motion “THBT female political candidates in liberal democracies should not appeal to traditional female roles in their campaigns”.<\/p>\n The Novice Final on the motion “TH regrets the idealisation of motherhood” was won by Competition in economics is overrated<\/em> (Marina Koji\u0107,<\/strong> Mira Eberdorfer<\/strong>) in Closing Government against the Opening Government Munich’s Last Stand<\/em> (Linus Kienmoser,<\/strong> Marc Richly<\/strong>), Opening Opposition TEAM ROCKET<\/em> (Tara Jovi\u0107,<\/strong> Matko Dujmovi\u0107<\/strong>) and Closing Opposition Dreams breakers<\/em> (Antoine Veniant,<\/strong> Micha\u0142 Kowalski<\/strong>). This final was judged by Huyen Nguyen (chair) with Calyxx Peucker<\/strong>, Klaudia Maciejewska<\/strong>, Matt Hankin and Katharina Jansen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Best speaker was Tin Pulji\u0107 with an average of 82 points, the best novice speaker was Louisa Broeg, averaging 79.4 points.<\/p>\n Different from previous editions of the tournament, the Munich Research Open 2019 also represented the platform for a scientific study conducted by researchers from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Right before and right after each round, the scientists would distribute surveys with factual questions related to the motion to debaters and would ask judges to fill in a second ballot assessing the overall persuasiveness of each speaker (including style).
