The team Fabregat’s Angels<\/em> (Paula Villase\u00f1or Cano, Carlota Delso Gonz\u00e1lez<\/strong>; Madrid) has won both the EFL and Grand final of the Barcelona Debating Open 2019!<\/p>\n In the Grand final, they were victorious out of Opening Government, defeating the Opening Opposition Crazy Broke Asians<\/em> (Kenneth Foo Wui Kit<\/strong>, Seyoung Jeon<\/strong>; KCL), Closing Government Abbas & Faizan<\/em> (Abbas Azmat, Faizan Raja<\/strong>; Lahore) and Closing Opposition Ek Chutki sindoor<\/em> (Arth Mishra, Ishaan Kapoor<\/strong>; LSE\/Oxford). The debate on the motion “THP a world where the majority believed in determinism over one where the majority believed in free will” was judged by a panel of Louis Collier <\/strong>(chair), Gigi Gil, Ioannis Karellis, Jure Hederih <\/strong>and Vikki Perijainen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The EFL final was won by Fabregat’s Angels<\/em> out of Closing Opposition against the teams URJC<\/em> (Paula Alonso, Qquillaccori Garc\u00eda<\/strong>) in Opening Government, Al-Quds 1<\/em> (Tala Salem, Dalia Alayassa<\/strong>) in Opening Opposition and Comillas A<\/em> (Bel\u00e9n Montes Garc\u00eda, Elena Gillis Cintrano<\/strong>) in Closing Government. The motion read “THBT mainstream Spanish political parties should operate cordon sanitaire policies towards radical populists (e.g. VOX) ” and included an infoslide. The adjudication panel consisted of Vikki Perijainen (chair) Daan Spackler, Duncan Crowe<\/strong>, Gigi Gil and Ioannis Karellis.<\/p>\n Best speaker of the tournament was Ivan Veliantsei <\/strong>with an average of 80.00 speaker points. Best EFL speaker was Paula Villase\u00f1or Cano with an average of 77.00 speaker points.<\/p>\n Open Break: EFL Break: Adjudication Break: The tournament featured 32 teams and was organised by the Barcelona Debating Society. Acting as Chief Adjudicators were Carlota Noguerol<\/strong>, Duncan Crowe, Gigi Gil and Muhammad Asadullah Khan.
