The Pro-Am final saw a victory from Closing Opposition as well, with Squeaky Frog A<\/em> (Julia Wright, Cveta Gotovats<\/strong>) defeating Opening Government we can do anything we put our minds to ???\u200d\u2640\ufe0f\u2728just not this????\u200d\u2640\ufe0f<\/em> (Daniela Williams, Isabelle Healy), Opening Opposition UDS board duty<\/em> (Harmen de Jong, Silke Zwart<\/strong>) and Closing Government Gymtlemen<\/em> (Galymzhan Makashev, Kanat Islambekov<\/strong>). The motion read “THBT governments of developed countries should invest significantly in space exploration”. Ajudicating were Joona Suhonen<\/strong> as chair, Hadar Goldberg, Jack Williams, Lior Sokol<\/strong> and Sarah Tay<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Best speaker of the tournament was Ron Leizrowice witz an average of 80.8 speaker points. Best Novice speaker was Julia Wright, averaging 77.8 speaks.<\/p>\n

The tournament was convened by the Astana Debate Union and featured 5 in-rounds with a break to semifinals as well as a Pro-Am final. The Chief Adjudication consisted of Lena Kolle, Hadar Goldberg, Sarah Tay and Aigerim Shadeyeva who were supported by Marthe Wijfjes<\/strong> and Ayazhan Ramazanova<\/strong> as tab team. Equity officers were Lucy McManus<\/strong> and Shynar Akhmetova<\/strong>.<\/div>\n

The Motions:<\/strong><\/p>\n

R1:<\/strong> THO the use of shaming as a practice by activists.<\/p>\n

R2:<\/strong> Infoslide: Writing-off loans (otherwise known as consumer loan debt relief) is a policy adopted by the Kazakh government, where the government forgives the low-income people’s debts owed to banks or microfinance firms<\/em><\/p>\n

THBT Kazakhstan should abandon writing-off loans policy.<\/p>\n

R3:<\/strong> Infoslide: You are an old, unrecognized talented artist. You have recently recieved a job opportunity in a big firm, that promises you a large funding and exposure to your art. The position is contingent on you agreeing to censor the political parts in your works.<\/em><\/p>\n

R4:<\/strong> THBT universities should prioritize increasing diversity (e.g. gender, ethnicity, etc.) among faculty members, even at the expense of qualification.<\/p>\n
