\"\"The winners of the Asian British Parliamentary Championship 2020 in Malaysia are Ateneo 1<\/em> (Mikko Vitug, Ignaceo Villareal<\/strong>). They won the grand final out of Closing Opposition, speaking against\u00a0 UPD 2\u00a0<\/em>(Alia Yao, Clarice Tee) in Opening Government,\u00a0NUS 1\u00a0<\/em>(Tao En Qi, Shaun Lee<\/strong>) in Opening Opposition), and\u00a0Taylor’s 1\u00a0<\/em>(Har Naveenjeet Singh, Ploopy<\/strong>) in Closing Government. The final was chaired by\u00a0Piali Bopanno.\u00a0<\/strong>Judging with them were\u00a0Boby Andika Ruitang, Connor O’Brien, Dominic, EnTing Lee, Erica Liu, Fardeen Ameen, Taha Iqbal, Udai Kamanth. <\/strong>The motion read “TH, as the feminist movement, would advocate for aggressive government intervention to counteract behaviours which the feminist movement determines are predominantly the outcome of adaptive preference”.<\/p>\n

The EFL Final was won by\u00a0UGM B <\/em>(Muhammad Rizki Akbar Lubis, Muhammad Zufar Farhan Zuhdi<\/strong>) in Closing Government. Speaking against them were\u00a0BUET 2\u00a0<\/em>(Abrar Muhit, Ishmam Tasnim<\/strong>) in Opening Government, Tokyo 1\u00a0<\/em>(Kanan Ishizaka, Tota Takahashi<\/strong>) in Opening Opposition, and\u00a0U Macau 1 <\/em>(Garrett Li, Emon Zhou)<\/strong> in Closing Opposition. The final on the motion “THR the US’ declining relative influence over global governance” was chaired by Amrit Agastia.\u00a0<\/strong>Judging with them were\u00a0Daniel Maier-Gant, Estelle Florens, Grace Zhang,<\/strong> Inna Fermin, Nicolas Lozano, Shudipto Ahmed, Taosif Amin, Uphie Abdurrahman. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Asia British Parliamentary Championship 2020 took place over the weekends of October 3rd – 5th and 10th – 11th featuring 162 teams. It broke to Partial – Octofinals and to EFL Semifinals. The tournament was convened by Malaysia Institute for Debate & Public Speaking. The Chief Adjudication Panel included Inna Fermin, Sher May Nar, Khalis Khalid, Connor O’Brien,<\/strong> and Sourodip Paul.<\/strong> Tabulation was done by Albert Kamahlendra, Tasdid Tahsin<\/strong>. R1: <\/strong>Infoslide: Historical redress comprises restitution (the return of unjustly appropriated items), compensation (transfers of resources made in acknowledgement of unjust appropriations), and apologies or memorial events for practices that are now deemed injustices, but which have ceased for a considerable time, and\/or whose victims are now deceased.<\/em><\/p>\n

THBT historically discriminated groups should abandon narratives of historical redress in their campaign for equality.<\/p>\n

R2:<\/strong>\u00a0Infoslide: <\/em>The United States Democratic Party leadership constitutes the Democratic Party’s Congressional Leaders and the Democratic Party’s Presidential and Vice-Presidential Nominees. ‘Procedurally activist’ congressional tactics include but are not limited to court-packing, strategically using or abolishing the filibuster, adding states, using impeachment to delay senate judicial confirmation proceedings, and overriding executive orders.<\/em><\/p>\n

THBT the Democratic Party leadership should publicly commit to using ‘procedurally activist’ congressional tactics to pursue their policy objectives.<\/p>\n

R3<\/strong>: Infoslide:<\/em> Coercive powers include the power to levy economic and financial sanctions and to stage interventions. The World Health Organization (WHO) makes a wide variety of policy recommendations during epidemics and pandemics regarding disease outbreak reporting, travel and trade restrictions, and lockdown measures<\/em><\/p>\n

THW grant the WHO, in times of crisis, coercive powers to gather information about suspected infectious disease outbreaks and to enforce its policy recommendations.<\/p>\n

R4: <\/strong>Infoslide: The real economy concerns the production, purchase and flow of goods and services (like oil, bread and labour) within an economy. R5<\/strong>: THBT Southeast Asian nations should actively move towards the consolidation of a regional alliance at the expense of seeking stronger ties with non-regional allies (e.g. by forming closer intra-ASEAN defence ties, increasing ASEAN economic integration etc).<\/p>\n
