\"\"<\/a><\/strong>The current president of the EUDC Council<\/a>, Jens Henning Fischer<\/strong>, has been elected president of the WUDC Council in Botswana tonight. He succeeds Sam Greenland<\/strong> from Sydney, Australia in office. It was in July this year when Jens had been re-elected EUDC president at Euros in Amsterdam.<\/p>\n

Two offices at the same time? No, Jens revealed to Achte Minute, he will resign from his office as EUDC president and announce a successor after consulting the committee. On board of his WUDC team are Steven Johnson<\/strong> (Alaska, USA) and Simone van Elk<\/strong> from The Netherlands. Steven is the new registrar, Simone functions as Secretary.<\/p>\n

As chair of the WUDC Council he will deploy his time to “prepare important decisions at issue. In particular, this will be the registration system for Worlds and the matter of expanding the open break,” Jens told Achte Minute. Consolidation will be another aspect of his work: Launching a website, communication with delegates, a simplified version of WUDC Constitution. And one eye will always be on Berlin 2013, Jens admits.<\/p>\n

Jens Henning Fischer is one of the founders of debating in Germany, and helped to start the clubs in Passau and Berlin. As a debater, he was German vice-champion 2002 and won several national competitions. In 2010, he won opens in Bremen, Frankfurt and Utrecht, as well as the Master\u2019s Cup of the German Debating Society. He was the Chief Adjudicator of Berlin EUDC 2006, and of many national and international competitions. Since 2009, Jens is president of the EUDC Council. The WUDC Council is the\u00a0assembly of the delegates of all nations participating at the annual Worlds.\u00a0The WUDC Council is similar to the EUDC Council, the part which is different is the number of votes: Individual delegates may have up to four votes depending on the number of institutions of their respective nations having sent teams to the Worlds in the past two years, as is recorded in the Constitution of the World Universities Debating Championships<\/a>.<\/p>\n
