\"\"<\/a>Become a debating champion of the online world, register for the 3rd World Online Debating Championships, or WODC! Debaters from all over the world will compete for the title in summer, 32 teams will be accepted. Reg fees are capped at 100 US-Dollars per team, a team comprises two or more debaters with no maximum. They will debate “anything from pre-nuptial agreements, through European tax law, all the way to denying heavy drinkers liver transplants”, as David Crane<\/strong> from Debatewise told Achte Minute.<\/p>\n

David reports from last year’s competition that “the Czech Republic beat New Zealand in the final.” He wonders: “Could your team beat the reigning world champions? Can you impress this year\u2019s top adjudicators? You can team up with anyone: people from the Internet; your school, university or local community; or, for the hard-core, you can compete by yourself.” The convenors promise, that they’ve upgraded their system, tweaked the rules and improved the prizes.<\/p>\n

From July on, WODC debaters will be engaged in debates every two weeks until the end of September. More information is availbale from the WODC website on Debatewise<\/a> and from the WODC group in Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wonder how an online debating tournament would work? Achte Minute summed it up for you:<\/a><\/p>\n

  1. Monday, 12 a.m.: Motion will be announced, the proposition makes their case.<\/li>\n
  2. Tuesday, 12 a.m.: Motion and arguments of proposition announced to opposition, the again make their case.<\/li>\n
  3. Wednesday, 12 a.m.: Proposition responds to opposition, adding new arguments.<\/li>\n
  4. Thursday, 12 a.m.: Again, the oppositional team responds, adding new arguments for their side.<\/li>\n
  5. Friday, 12 a.m.: Both factions conclude.<\/li>\n
  6. Saturday, 12 a.m.: Judging begins. Two of the judges are experienced judges who broke at Worlds. In past years, among them were\u00a0 Andy Hume<\/strong> (WUDC winner 1997), Can Okar<\/strong> (chief adjudicator Worlds 2010), Colm Flynn<\/strong> (former chair of the WUDC Council) and Jonathan Leader Maynard<\/strong> (EUDC winner 2009).<\/li>\n
  7. The winning team breaks to the next round.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    All dates are Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), i.e. 12 a.m. GMT is 1 p.m. in Germany.<\/p>\n
