First BP tourny in Sweden ever: From 15 to 17 April, the Lund Debate Society ((LDS) will host the first Lund Open. Five prelims with seven-minute speeches lead to semis and final. The latter will be staged in a majestic venue, the convenors promise on the Lund Open 2011 homepage. The adjudication team has not been announced yet. But the Lund debaters allure to their fellow debaters with an all-inclusive offer: An optional debate workshop, a guided city tour, and meals are scheduled for that spring weekend as well as a lot of Swedish alcohol, Swedish singing and clubbing after dinner. On top of that, they let you choose between two offers: The “international package” costs 80 Euros and includes accommodation for two nights, the “local package” on the other hand is just 40 Euros for those who will take care about their accommodation themselves. Registration starts on 5 February, registration fees will have to be paid by 1 April. Addendum, 4 February 2011:

As Lucinda David announced today upon request, she will be chief adjudicator (CA) of this year’s Lund Open. She will also be CA at De La Salle Worlds at the end of this year. Her deputy in Lund will be Dino de Leon, convenor of DLSU Worlds. On top of that, another DCA will be added to the team – someone from Europe. Who that is going to be Lucinda will reveal a.s.a.p., she promised.

Addendum, 6 February 2011:

As the convenors of the Lund Open published today, Catherine Murphy will be joining the CA team of Lucinda and Dino. The Lund Open homepage says she is a great motion-setter. Catherine made it to semis  at Amsterdam Euros together with her team mate Ruth Faller, ranked among the Top Five teams at Botswana Worlds and is also a prospective DCA for the Leeds bid for Euros 2012.
