Who is top of the club? The Dresden Debating Union (DDU) wants to figure that out and therefore hosts on Tuesday, 25 January, an internal tournament called “Crosstalk”.Every time, two speakers challenge each other in a duel and discuss a motion, which will be drawn 15 minutes before the debate. One duel consists of four speeches after the system pro-contra-pro-contra. An adjudication panel awards points for content, rhetoric and persuasive power. Afterwards will be chosen, who can enter the next round. DDU announces on its website that the winner will not only receive fame and glory, but also a win a book – one about rhetoric, of course.

The “Crosstalk” is a tradition of DDU and is being held once a semester since 2007. The edition of the winter semester 2010/11 starts on January 25 at 6.30 pm, venue is room 301 in the lecture hall center of Technical University Dresden (TU Dresden). Spectators are very welcome and can also watch only single duels during the Crosstalk evening. Usually the Wortgefecht ends at 10.00 pm.
