Out of Closing Opposition, they defeated the Opening Government Moral Metrics and Shit (Arth Mishra, Josh Ashworth, LSE), Opening Opposition Oxford present and rejected (Abhinav Bathula, Jamie Johnson; LSE/Oxford) and Closing Government something something toxic masculinity (Ciara Mitchell, Cheyenne Ong; LSE). The motion for the grand final read "THBT the scientific community should reject the view that science and religion are non-overlapping magisteria (incl. infoslide)". Oxford wins Newcastle IV 2017Oxford TS (Andrew Seow and Teck Wei Tan) won the Newcastle IV 2017 from Closing Opposition on the motion "This house supports the increasing secularisation of the world". The Newcastle IV 2017 took place on 25th and 26th November 2017. In the Open Final Oxford TS debated against St Andrews Sausage Bean and Cheese Melt (Ruth Batten and Duncan Bowyer) in Opening Government, Manchester was out of team spots (Jacklin Kwan and Rudolfs Treilis) in Opening Opposition and Sheffield SS (Areeb Sherwani and Leon Stone) in Closing Opposition. Peer started debating in highschool when he attended "Jugend debattiert" and advanced to its national and international final in 2007. One year ago, he resumed debating when he moved to Lund. Emilia just moved to Lund in 2011 and tried debating at a local tournament. The Manchester Debating Unions is hosting the biggest event in the european debating circuit this year at the University of Manchester. Guilty pleasures, lamb with mint and loving England - Andreas Lazar about the Manchester IVWet, wet, wet - you must love England, for its weather, its guilty pleasures (deep fried chicken wings, huge burgers, chips and vinegar) and its talkative debaters. That was equally true for this year's Manchester IV in late February. With Ruth Faller (CA Galway Euros) and Sam Block (CA De La Salle Worlds) as motion setters for 80 teams, the Manchester Debating Union did a great job entertaining the debaters with regard to culinary and social needs. Manchester calling: From 25 to 27 February, the British town will be stage to the Manchester IV 2011. The conveners advertise their tournament with a funny music vid. In the past, VDCH teams have been quite successful in Manchester: In 2010, they outnumbered other associations or countries in the ESL final, while in 2009, a team from a VDCH society even won the ESL final. Drei VDCH-Teams im ESL-Finale des Manchester IV 2010Im Finale der Nichtmuttersprachler des Manchester IV 2010 standen drei VDCH-Teams. Sie mussten sich jedoch einem Team aus Rotterdam geschlagen geben.
