Tilbury House and Lund win Maastricht Novice

15134774_1217732211598558_6542380838560717589_nMaastricht Novice 2016 was won by “The Dynamic Duo” (Helena Hecke, Tilbury House and Diogo Silva, Lund) in Closing Government on the motion “THW press the button” (Infoslide: There is a button. If pressed, nuclear weapons no longer function. This would be immediately detected by owners of said weapons. If you do not press the button immediately, it will disappear.)

They competed against Debate Duo (Asena Baykal and Helena Depaepe, Maastricht) in Opening Government, RDaweSome (Rayo Vermeij and Moon van der Pas, Maastricht) in Opening Opposition and Team Gualg (Dino Wildi and Milec Gadzala) in Closing Opposition in the final, which was adjudicated by Srdjan Milec (chair), Lucy Lester, Jelte Schievelz and Lorenza de Domenico.

Helena Hecke was also proclaimed best speaker of the competition.

Maastricht Novice, the newcomer competition of Rhetorica Maastricht, was held on 19th November 2016 at UCM and was convened by Anna Vasylyeva and Marina Louiza Markatou.

The CA team consisted out of Srdjan Milec, Lucy Lester and Jelte Schivelz.

The Break:

1. Debate Duo (Asena Baykal and Helena Depaepe) 11 points

2. The Dynamic Duo (Helena Hecke and Diogo Silva) 9 points

3. RDaweSome (Rayo Vermeij and Moon van der Pas) 9 points

4. Team Gualg (Dino Wildi and Milec Gadzala) 8 team points

 

The Motions:

Round 1:  THW not eat meat.

Round 2:  TH supports WikiLeaks’ decision to release Hillary Clinton’s e-mails.

Round 3:  THW rather live in a world where make up did not exist.

Round 4:  THW legalise child labour in developing countries.

Final: THW press the button.
