Vorstandswechsel in Münster

Der Debattierclub der Universität Münster e.V. hat auf seiner Mitgliederversammlung einen neuen Vorstand gewählt. Dieser besteht zukünftig aus Nikitas Rischkowsky als Präsident sowie Angelika Grüter (1. Vorsitzende), Pauliene Hartwig (2. Vorsitzende) und Matthias Kramer (3. Vorsitzender).
Aus dem Vorstand scheiden Cathrine Thams, Valentina Breitenbach, Paul Schmitz und Robin Conrad aus.
Die Achte Minute wünscht dem neuen Vorstand eine erfolgreiche Amtszeit.

Ironman in Münster
Debattierclub Münster seeks the strongest debaters: Be part of the first German language Ironman tournament. The tournament will take place the day before the traditional Santa Claus tournament in Münster. The tournament will be held in German on Friday, 30 November, in British Parliamentary Style (BPS). Münster Santa Claus Tournament 2012
Christmas cookies and debating: The Debattierclub Münster offers both with their Santa Claus tournament. The tournament will be held in German on Saturday, 1 December, in British Parliamentary Style (BPS) and comprises three pre-rounds and break into final. Registration is not yet posible but please save the date!

EUDC 2012: Update on results after round 6
Yep, the European Universities Debating Championship (EUDC or Euros) is still going on. It's day 3, the last three prelims are scheduled for today. We've got an update on the results of most of the teams from under the roof of VDCH (Verband der Debattierclubs an Hochschulen, or association of debating societies at universities). This is how they performed in the first six preliminary rounds:

EUDC 2012: Results after day 2 in Belgrade
A little less hot in Belgrade, said the weather forecast. Only 31 degree Celsius, said the weather forecast. Must have felt like a fresh breeze after 40 degrees the day before. At least, today no one complained about the Serbian heat on Twitter. Rather, some obviously ate ice cream in between rounds for reasons of refreshment.
Apart from the weather, there's more exciting news from the Serbian capital: Again, Willy Witthaut helped us gather the results for VDCH club - thank you! (Again, of some teams we only have the data after previous rounds. We're trying to collect more data.)

MDD 2012: Biggest German language debating competition about to start
The German language debating championship is about to start in Vienna, Austria. Competing for the title are 68 teams from Germany, Switzerland and Austria, or debating societies from Aachen, Bayreuth, Berlin, Bonn, Dresden, Frankfurt, Freiburg, Graz, Göttingen, Halle, Hamburg, Hannover, Heidelberg, Ingolstadt, Jena, Karlsruhe, Kiel, Klagenfurt, Köln, Konstanz, Leipzig, Magdeburg, Mainz, Marburg, München, Münster, Potsdam, Regensburg, Salzburg, Stuttgart, St. Gallen, Tübingen, Wien, Würzburg and Zürich.

Changes on the executive board of Debattierclub Münster: Teresa Widlok just replaced Gerrit Gottschalk as vice president of the debating society. She is now working with president Aris Miro Marinello and Philipp Schmidtke who have already been elected in summer.

11th season of ZEIT DEBATTEN series
The next season of the German debating ZEIT DEBATTEN series is set: the general assembly of VDCH, the Association of Debating Societies at Universities, came together in August and decided upon dates and locations of four ZEIT DEBATTEN tournaments, three regional championships and the German debating championship (MDD) 2012. A lucky streak for the Berlin Debating Union (BDU): After winning the Potsdam PULS Punk, they managed to emerge as victors at the Training Tournament in Dortmund on 4 June. The opposition consisting of the WUDC 2013 convenor Patrcik Ehmann, Florian Umscheid and Manuel Adams defeated the government team from Potsdam with Jan-Dirk Capelle, Mathias Hamann and Jana Bachmann in the final. Professors compete with students in Münster
Professors in competition with students - go to the Münster Schloss on April 28 to see them debate at 7:30 p.m. in room S8. On the professors' side, it will be Uwe Kanning (psychology), Bernhard Marschall (medical sciences) and Fabian Wittreck (law). From Debattierclub Münster, it is going to be Johanna Mai, Julian Schneider and Paul Zacheus. The audience will decide upon the motion between two suggestions: "Should the federal student support be granted due to grades?" or "Should English be introduced as language of instruction in German universities?"

Debating Union in Duisburg founded – first debate with strong support
A new debating union has been founded: last thursday, four students founded the "DUEbattierclub" in Duisburg: Paul Wypych, Philip Scharf, Markus Krümpel and Jörn Hahn, former vice-president of the debating union in Dortmund. During the first debates of this new union all four had strong support: vice-president of the VDCH, the Association of Debating Societies at Universities (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy), Esther Reinert, Lukas Haffert, debater in Cologne and Oliver Knüpfler, president of the debatig union in Münster.
