MDD 2012: Tobias Kube awarded best junior speaker
Tobias Kube from Marburg was awarded best junior speaker at this year's German language debating championship (Meisterschaft im deutschsprachigen Debattieren or MDD) in Vienna. This award is a cup engraved with the names of all former laureates. It is assigned by the German alumni debating society DDG (short for Deutsche Debattiergesellschaft) since 2004. It's the first time the German language debating championship (Meisterschaft im deutschsprachigen Debattieren or MDD) is hosted outside Germany. The MDD is part of the ZEIT DEBATTEN series. Behind it are VDCH in cooperation with the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT, with the support of Deutsche Telekom and the media partner of a major public German broadcaster (ZDF). The series has been staged in alternating cities for more than a decade under the patronage of the former German chancellor Helmut Schmidt.

MDD 2012: Marco Witzmann and Valerio Morelli from Munich won the German language debating championship

Valerio Morelli und Marco Witzmann haben für den Debattierclub der Münchener Universitäten die Meisterschaft im Deutschsprachigen Debattieren in Wien 2012 gewonnen. Sie siegten im Finale der Hochschulmeisterschaft gegen zwei Teams der Berlin Debating Union (Annette Kirste und Julian Ohm sowie Georg Sommerfeld und Johannes Häger) und ein Team der Universität Hamburg (Kira Lancker und Barbara Schunicht).
Der 24-jährige Valerio Morelli, Mathematikstudent und gebürtiger Südtiroler aus Bozen und der 24-jährige Maschienenbaustudent Marco Witzmann sicherten sich mit ihrem Sieg den Titel des Meisters im Deutschsprachigen Debattierens.

Mini-Cup in Munich
The debating society of the Bavarian capital, Munich, organizes on Saturday, April 2nd, a "mini-cup". The debates will be held in BPS.
The tournament actually is "mini" because there are provided spots for eight teams in two rooms. After three preliminary rounds, a direct break is planned into the final, the winning team prize beckons as a surprise.

On travelling to a very remote area – That was ZEIT DEBATTE Greifswald
“How far have you travelled?“is the starting sentence into any kind of conversation this weekend. It is the kick-off into the new season of ZEIT DEBATTEN series at Greifswald. Flirts, smalltalk - they all start with the "How long did it take you to get here" question. Indeed, the Hanseatic town by the Bodden, a bay at the Baltic Sea, is located in quite a remote area. However, about 65 debaters found their ways to Greifswald. Many of them split their journey - it took them a two-day's travel via Berlin or Hamburg to get to Meck-Pomm.
