Impressions from the women-only tourney in Jena
Extra, extra! The first women only debating tournament in the history of German debating took place: Jena hosted the girls from August 17 to 19. Chief adjudicators Andrea Gau (Mainz), Sarah Jaglitz (Greifswald) and Dessislava Kirova (Berlin) and female debaters from Greifswald, Halle, Münster, Mainz, Tübingen and Jena assembled in the Thuringian town to debate.
- Fun Fact No. 1: It was the boys who were catering for the girls: Coffee, cake, and hot’n’spicy Curry à la Clemens Lechner. Yummy!
- Fun Fact No. 2: Half of the debaters for vegetarians. Hence, the vegetarian curry.
- Fun Fact No. 3: An all-women team won the tourney. Congrats to Franziska Böker und Sophie Binas. And congrats to Katharina Röhm-Kuhr!

Willkommen im Jahr 1950: “Einer schien sogar seine ‘weibliche’ Ader entdeckt zu haben und ordnete die Kekse immer besonders hübsch an.” Keksehübschanordnen soll weiblich sein? Da ändern auch die Gänsefüßchen nichts dran: Das ist schlimm!
Habe schon auf anderen Turnieren Jungs kochen und putzen sehen. Da war das kein “fun fact” – sondern ganz normal… Ich habe den Eindruck wir sind schon weiter, als viele glauben.
Beim zweiten Schobbecup im vergangenen Jahr hat Willy Eintöpfe vorbereitet. Ganz alleine. Vielleicht hatte er sogar Hilfe von seinem Vater. Das weiß ich nicht mehr. Wir hielten das im Sinne der Gleichstellung jedenfalls nicht für weiter erwähnenswert. Angesichts dieser Impressionen aus Jena jedoch muss ich sagen: Danke, Willy, für deinen Erbseneintopf à la Cuauthemóc!
Anfangs habe ich dazu tendiert, diesen Artikel für eine Satire zu halten. – Seit dem ich die Kommentare dazu gelesen habe, bin ich mir sicher, dass es eine sein soll. 🙂

Ah, how nice to see that such a tournament took off in in Germany as well. I am actually very curious to find out whether this tournament for women only met similar opposition as it did when Oxford organized it for the first (and second) time a while back. Or was there a very positive or, at least, postively curious attitude towards the outcome of this debate from the Germans? If anyone could tell me a bit more about the history of this intiative, I would greatly appreciate it! @Friederike: Was ist Ironie? Was will eure CJ denn tatsächlich/eigentlich sagen?
Als Satire würde ich es nicht bezeichnen wollen, denn auf mich wirkt es insgesamt doch wie ein durchaus ernst gemeinter Bericht, wenn auch mit humoristischen Akzenten. Diese werden natürlich sehr sensibel aufgefasst; ach, da wird Dekorationskunstfertigkeit als weibliche Eigenschaft und das Kochen durch Männer als etwas Besonderes dargestellt. Mit solchen Dingen haben aber weibliche Personen vielleicht deutlich mehr, als man als Mann gewöhnlich wahrnimmt, zu kämpfen, und vielleicht sollte man(n) darüber nachdenken, ob man analoge Beschreibungen von Frauen (bei “Männertätigkeiten”) als ähnlich humoristisch aufgefasst hätte.
Wurde bei Severin eigentlich auch konsequent die weibliche Form benutzt? Heißt es dann tatsächlich Sever?

No real reason to translate the German for me (I had to read bloody Nietzsche and Heidegger in German during my undergrad! 😉 ), but it would, as you already suggested, be very interesting for the European community to have a comparative article on the experiences of Jena and Oxford indeed.
In dem Bericht über einen Frauenförderturnier alte Klischees zu unterstreichen, ist eine Sache – aber Heidegger angreifen? Das geht zu weit.
Aber Manuel, Leela hat doch bestimmt nur Nietzsche angegriffen! 😉
Haha, Daniel is right, I did only refer to Nietzsche, and I doubt he would care (sorry about that bad joke). Also, I was not referring to the gentlemen themselves, but more the occasional torment of reading their very complex material auf Deutsch. It was some of the best stuff I ever read though, but allow me some space for venting. 😉

Vll. liegts am Tabellenstand der Bundesliga (Gladbach Erster, “wir” nur bei Kopfstand), dass ich da im Moment grundsätzlich besonders humorlos bin, aber bitte seid so gut und verteidigt hier nicht Heidegger, schon gar nicht als Person!
