Hamburg wins Berlin Punk 2012

Impressions from the women-only tourney in Jena

Extra, extra! The first women only debating tournament in the history of German debating took place: Jena hosted the girls from August 17 to 19. Chief adjudicators Andrea Gau (Mainz), Sarah Jaglitz (Greifswald) and Dessislava Kirova (Berlin) and female debaters from Greifswald, Halle, Münster, Mainz, Tübingen and Jena assembled in the Thuringian town to debate. Sophie Binas and Franziska Bröker win at first women only tourney

From 17 to 19 August the first women only debating tournament took place in Germany organized by the Debattiergesellschaft Jena. 16 speakers argued in five preliminary rounds and the final. Sophie Binas (Klartext Halle) and Franziska Bröker (S.A.E.C.L.O. Greifswald), the latter just finished grammar school, won the final from the position of Closing Opposition. To learn more on ZEIT DEBATTE Jena 2011, please do not hesitate to read the German version of this article. The tournament series ZEIT DEBATTEN is organised by VDCH, the Association of Debating Societies at Universities, in cooperation with the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT and German Telekom as well as with the support of ZDF, a German public broadcaster. It has been a decade now since the first ZEIT DEBATTEN series started with at least five big annual competitions. One of these is the German debating championship. Professors against students – a public debate in Jena

On 28 April, three speakers from the Debattiergesellschaft Jena (DJG) will step into the ring against the three professors Stephan Lessenich (Sociology), Michael Dreyer (Political Science) and Stefan Strohschneider (Intercultural Business Communication). Jacob Horn, Friederike Meyer zu Wendischhoff and Severin Weingarten will be arguing on the student side. The audience is to choose the topic and to nominate the winner of the debate. Suggested motions are "Vegetarianism for everyone – should meat consumption be banned?", "Should worse pupils be supported more than better pupils?" and "Should the portrait rights be abandoned?" Bonn wins at Schobbe Cup 2010

Debattierclub Bonn won the Schobbe Cup 2010! In the final round, the team “Die Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo” from Berlin Debating Union in the proposition argued with “Bonn Generations” about net neutrality at Campus Westend of Frankfurt Goethe University. The team of Isabelle Loewe,  Gudrun Lux and Jens Fischer from the former German capital defeated Georg Sommerfeld, Dessislava Kirova and Kai Dietmann from the now capital.
