EUDC 2018 results: Tel Aviv win both finals
The Novi Sad EUDC, lasting 30.07.-05.08.18, came to an impressive conclusion: Teams from Tel Aviv won both the ESL (English as a Second Language) and the Open final! The ESL dominance continued with – originally Mexican – debater Lucía Arce, starting for Sheffield, being both top speaker in ESL and in total. In the ESL final stood the teams Moscow 1 (Mikhail Shuganov, Ivan Veliantsei) in Opening Government, Zagreb 1 (Tin Puljić, Lovro Šprem) in Opening Opposition, Tel Aviv 2 (Amichay Even Chen, Ido Kotler) in Closing Government and Leiden 1 (Jeroen Wijnen, Romée Lind) in Closing Opposition to the motion “This House supports the promotion of collective guilt after large scale crimes against humanity.” Adjudicating the ESL final were Clíodhna Ní Chéileachair in the chair, joined by Brian Wong, Clyde Welsh, Eitan Har-Oz, Matt Hazell, Melda Eren and Raffy Marshall.
In the Open final stood the teams LSE 1 (Ciara Mitchell, Sarah Tay) in Opening Government, Tel Aviv 1 (Tom Manor, Noam Dahan) in Opening Opposition, BPP 1 (Jamie Jackson, Muhammad Asadullah Khan) in Closing Government and Oxford 3 (Louis Collier, Rosa Thomas) in Closing Opposition to the motion “This house regrets the shift in the #MeToo movement from victims sharing their experiences to holding specific public figures to account.” The Open final had Owen Mooney in the chair, joined by Ameera Natasha Moore, Benji Kalman, Danny DeBois, Emma Lucas, Janko Djordjevic, and Ybo Buruma.

Information: Neurodivergence refers to those whose psychology is non standard, e.g. for reasons of mental health, mental disability, etc.
R7: TH, as Colombia, would cease cooperation with the USA in the War Against Drugs.
R8: THBT artists should not participate in the ongoing interpretation of their art.
R9: THS first generation immigrants to Western Europe encouraging their children to fully assimilate and identify with the local culture.
Open PQF: THW prefer a religion which preaches that one’s fate in the material world is predetermined rather than one which preaches that choices influence it.
ESL QF: THBT the EU should decriminalise human smuggling.
Information: Human smuggling is the aiding of a willing person to illegally cross a border. It is distinct from human trafficking, in which the person does not consent.
Open QF: THBT the IMF should require direct control over a country’s monetary policy as a condition of national bailouts.
