Anmeldung zur 11. Deutschen Meisterschaft eröffnet
Registration for the German Debating Championship is open from now on! Debating societies which are members of VDCH (Verband der Debattierclubs an Hochschulen, engl. Association of Debating Societies at Universities) are allowed to register their teams for the biggest annual debating tournament in Germany. Teams from Germany itself, Switzerland, Austria and maybe even Italy are expected to participate. Registration details are published online, see www.ddm-heidelberg.de.
The German Debating Championship will be staged in Heidelberg from 9 to 12 June 2011. Convenors are Jenny Holm, Kristina Seebacher, Till Kroeger and Daniel Sommer, the CA-team is formed by Tim Richter, Gudrun Lux, Jan Lüken ...

The Debating Club Heidelberg (DCH) has a redesigned homepage. Visit DCH online and find impressions, interesting articles on the history of the deb soc and much more.
The debaters from Heidelberg are going to host this year's Germany's national championship (or Deutsche Debattiermeisterschaft, DDM) in early June - more details on Germany's largest university debating competition will be available soon under www.ddm-heidelberg.de.

Heidelberg wins Western German Championship / Potsdam wins Eastern German Championship / Kiel wins Northern German Championship /
We proudly present the winners of this year's German regionals:
Heidelberg won the Western German regional.
Potsdam won the Eastern German regional.
Kiel won the Northern German regional.
On the weekend previous to the other regionals, Tübingen won the Southern German regional.
Congrats to everyone!
In the West, Sven Hirschfeld, Kristina Seebacher and Jennifer Holm from Debating Club Heidelberg defeated Nicolas Eberle, Robert Lehmann and Caroline Moll from Debattierclub Johannes Gutenberg Mainz (DCJG). Overview: German Regional Championships 2011
The regional championships will take place from 16 to 17 April 2011 with exception of the South German Championship which will be held one week earlier.The Northern regionals will be hosted by Debattierclub Osnabrück, a society still not much older than a year. Convener of the Southern regionals is going to be Debattierclub Bayreuth which is located in Franconia. Host of the Eastern regionals will be Klartext Halle, acting Eastern regional champion and German debating champion of 2008. Daniel Grotzky has been announced CA for ZEIT DEBATTE Stuttgart. As Nils Haneklaus from Debattierclub Stuttgart (DCS) informed Achte Minute, Daniel is going to replace Andrea Gau. Daniel is one of the most experienced debaters in Germany, he has been CA of Southern German Championships 2007 and 2010 and of the German Championship 2010. In the season of 2007/2008 Daniel was president of VDCH, the Association of Debating Societies at Universities, 2008/2009 of the German Debating Society for Alumni (DDG). New executive board in Karlsruhe
Debatte Karlsruhe elected a new executive board. Leo Vogel was elected as the new board member, joining Christian Zimpelmann, whose period on the board will expire in half a year. The Karlsruhe club elects one of its two board members every university semester, each for the duration of one year.

ZEIT DEBATTE Mainz: Leipzig wins final!
The German debating circuit meets at ZEIT DEBATTE Mainz
The next big event of the ZEIT DEBATTEN series starts today! Everybody on the German debating circuit is on their way to Mainz. The convenors allure to German speaking debaters with a new breaking system new to the format of OPD (open parliamentary debate) which allows all speakers to enjoy five debates instead of the usual three. On top of that, they show great hospitality so typical for Rhineland-Palatinate: accommodation in a four-star hotel, free cider for everybody, winetasting under the guidance of the wine queen representing the wine-growing district around Mainz - and a masquerade! World University Championship in Spanish in Venezuela
In summer 2011, a world debating championship in Spanish will be held in Caracas, Venezuela. Venue will be the Universidad Central de Venezuela, itself UNESCO world heritage site. From 25 to 31 July, Spanish speaking debaters are going to compete for the title, as is reported on the University's website.
Details are scarce so far, but the Achte Minute editorial board is doing thorough research on the tournament. Try to find out if debaters from your institution feel confident enough to debate in Spanish and compete for the Spanish worlds title in Caracas.

New executive board in Dortmund
Debatte Dortmund (DebaDo) has elected a new executive board. Michael Blomeyer is now DebaDo's president and Christoph Niewerth their vice president.
Mainz won Streitkultur Cup 2010
Marc Lenzke, Marcus Ewald and Isabelle Loewe (DC Bonn) won the prestigious Streitkultur Cup in Tübingen. They defeated as team for Debattierclub Johannes Gutenberg Mainz (DCJG) another DCJG team consisting of Sina Strupp, Jan Papsch and Nicolas Eberle. The final was completed by the three Free Speakers Lea Weitekamp (Bonn), Hauke Blume (Berlin) and Wladi Jachtschenko (München). Judges of the final were Mario Dießner, Jenny Bachmann (Karlsruhe) and Daniel Grotzky (München/Zürich), president was Gudrun Lux (Mainz/Bonn).
