ZEIT DEBATTE series starts this weekend
The new ZEIT DEBATTEN series begins! This weekend (November 23 to 25), speakers and judges from all over Germany, Switzerland, Austria and even France flock at Tübingen. Language of the tournament, as in the whole series, is German, the ZEIT DEBATTE Tübingen will be held in Offene Parlamentarische Debatte (open parliamentary debate, OPD). Chief adjudicators are Philipp Stiel (German Champion 2010, Tübingen/Berlin) sowie Wiebke Nadler (Leipzig/Heidelberg) and Leonid Vogel (Karlsruhe).

Presidents’ day at the ZEIT publishing house
On October 5 and 6, many presidents of the local debating societies from under the umbrella of VDCH (the Association of Debating Societies at Universities, or Verband der Debattierclubs an Hochschulen) are going to assemble at the publishing house of DIE ZEIT in Hamburg. The main sponsor of the tournament series ZEIT DEBATTEN is going to give insight into the work of the editorial team of one of the largest weekly newspapers in Germany. The debaters are going to talk to the editor-at-large, the chief editors of theprint as well as the online issue and many others.

ZEIT DEBATTE in Tübingen
The next big event of the ZEIT DEBATTEN is already announced: Streitkultur Tübingen will convene the first ZEIT DEBATTE in the 2012/2013 season. The German speaking debating circuit will meet in Tübingen from November 23 to 25.

11th season of ZEIT DEBATTEN series
The next season of the German debating ZEIT DEBATTEN series is set: the general assembly of VDCH, the Association of Debating Societies at Universities, came together in August and decided upon dates and locations of four ZEIT DEBATTEN tournaments, three regional championships and the German debating championship (MDD) 2012. Registration for the German Debating Championship is open from now on! Debating societies which are members of VDCH (Verband der Debattierclubs an Hochschulen, engl. Association of Debating Societies at Universities) are allowed to register their teams for the biggest annual debating tournament in Germany. Teams from Germany itself, Switzerland, Austria and maybe even Italy are expected to participate. Registration details are published online, see www.ddm-heidelberg.de.

The Debating Club Heidelberg announced the German Debating Championship's complete CA team. Former VDCH-president and Western German Champion of 2008 Tim Richter from the Debattierclub Bonn will join the already announced Chief adjudicators Gudrun Lux (Debattierclub Bonn), Jan Lüken (WFI Debattierclub Ingolstadt) and Marcus Ewald (DCJG Mainz).

Again the professors won – Retrospection on ZEIT DEBATTEN evening in Jena
On 4 November, the Debattiergesellschaft Jena (DGJ) organised its annual ZEIT DEBATTEN evening, which is a public debating contest between students and professors. In the last years, the exhibition debate that is generously supported by the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT had inspired a lot of spectators and made them familiar with debating in general. This year the team of professors consisted of Eberhard Eichenhofer (Law), Alfred Fahr (Biology/Pharmaceutics) and Andreas Freytag (Economics). Halle for the first time enters the Top Ten in the VDCH hall of fame, and now draws with Bonn. Munich and Greifswald are victims of Halle’s victory in Greifswald and lose a few places. A new entry on the list is Bremen (Hanse Debating Union, HDU).
