Debating by the beautiful Croatian Adria – offered at the Split Union Open from May 13 to 15. But there’s not only the sea, no! There is more: Four prelims with five-minute speeches and a break to finals with seven-minute speeches. Masters’ Cup 2011
Anticipatory joy is the greatest joy: the date for the Masters' Cup 2011 has already been fixed! The tournament will be held from 23 to 24 September in Eisenach. Afterwards, on 25 September, this year's general meeting of the Deutsche Debattiergesellschaft (DDG) takes place.

VDCH offers adjudication workshop
VDCH, the Association of Debating Societies at Universities, stages the second adjudication workshop of the current season 2010/2011 from 7 to 8 May 2011. The venue is to be decided by the participants. The trainers are not known yet.
Debaters from all VDCH clubs are welcome to inform VDCH vice-president Esther Reinert via esther.reinert@vdch.de whether and with how many debaters they would like to participate at the adjudication workshop.

First friendship debate of Debattierclub Aachen with Universalis Debate in Maastricht
The western border area of Germany is socializing internationally: On the evening of 24 March a group of debaters and adjudicators from Debattierclub Aachen will drive to Maastricht, to compete with the Dutch colleagues from Universalis Debate at the University College Maastricht. It is a friendship debate which will be held in English in British Parliamentary Style.

Exchange with Lithuanian and Russian debaters? Then go to Vilnius, Lithuania’s capital! From 15 to 17 April, the International Debate Education Association (IDEA) is going to stage a programme there, the IDEA Exchange 2011. Durham Open 2011

Actually there are no debates scheduled in Dresden because the Technical University Dresden (TU Dresden) is having its semester break. But Dresden Debating Union (DDU) is always on the ball and organized a special event due to current happenings. On 15 February there will be a debate about the topic "welfare scrounger" with an additional discussion afterwards, which is especially addressed to students. The reason for this event is the statement of Henry Hasenpflug, state secretary of the Saxon State Ministry of Science and Art, who said that long-term students are "welfare scrounger".

DCU Open 2011
The Dublin City University (DCU) is going to host this year’s DCU Open on 25 and 26 March. On the Facebook page of the event, the convenors promise a provisional team cap of 40, but will try to accommodate as many teams as possible. The chief adjudicators are well attuned as a speaker team: Eoghan Casey and Patrick Rooney are currently EUDC champions and made it to WUDC quarter-finals in Botswana earlier this year. Bayreuth saves the SDM!
The Southern German championship (SDM) 2011 will be staged in Bayreuth. After DebattierClub St. Gallen had to cancel their plans to host the SDM – due to an international conference they have no rooms for prelims – Debattierclub Bayreuth (DCBT) will now fill in for the Swiss to save the competition for the southern part of German speaking debate societies.

Wanted: Judges for US Universities Debating Championship
Apply as judge: On the first weekend in April, the US Universities Debating Championship will be held at the University of Vermont. The convenors expect about 200 teams from 1 to 3 April. Second masters’ debate in Berlin
The masters' debate of Berlin Debating Union (BDU) gets into its second round: on 10 February the societies' best speakers compete another time with each other in a public debate. This time, the motion reads "Who is the owner of Nofretete?" Like the last time, when the debate is closed and the speakers have left the room, the audience is allowed to follow the process of adjudication. The masters' debate takes place at 7 pm on 10 February, the venue is "Orbis Humboldtianus" situated above the Audimax at the main building of Humboldt University Berlin.

Swansea IV 2011
The Welsh seaside town Swansea invites for debates in February. The Swansea IV is going to be hosted by the Swansea University Debating Society from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 February. Registration fee will be 25 pounds (circa 30 Euros) and includes crash on Friday and Saturday evening as well as socials on both days.
