11th season of ZEIT DEBATTEN series
The next season of the German debating ZEIT DEBATTEN series is set: the general assembly of VDCH, the Association of Debating Societies at Universities, came together in August and decided upon dates and locations of four ZEIT DEBATTEN tournaments, three regional championships and the German debating championship (MDD) 2012. An overview over the coming season 2011/12 is provided here:

Benedikt Nufer now president of VDCH / Tom-Michael Hesse, Simeon Reusch and Philipp Stiel his deputies
The general assembly of VDCH (the Association of Debating Societies at Universities) elected a new president and his deputies: Benedikt Nufer, Tom-Michael Hesse, Simeon Reusch and Philipp Stiel constitute the new VDCH executive board.
Benedikt has already been part of the executive bord last year. He is a member of the debating society at Hamburg University where he works on his Ph.D. thesis in history.
Simeon Reusch will be in charge of the German debating tournament series ZEIT DEBATTEN for the forthcoming year. He is doing his Bachelor studies in Philosophy and Politics in Halle where ...

VDCH hall of fame after the 10th ZEIT DEBATTEN season
Well, we neglected the VDCH hall of fame - sorry. Now we proudly present the new table implying the ZEIT DEBATTEN and Regionals from January on. The top seated Berlin Debating Union did win no more than one additional point, but still remains number 1. Tübingen is the most high-flying club this year in points, but also Jena rocks and now ist in the top 5.

The German debating Championship will be staged in Heidelberg from 9 to 12 June. Format will be the Open Parliamentary Debate (OPD) widely spread in the German speaking debating circuit. The Debating Club Heidelberg (DCH), then German debating champion in 2004, will now be host to Germany’s largest tournament. Chief adjudicators are going to be Gudrun Lux, Jan Lüken, Marcus Ewald and Tim Richter.
New VDCH members: Salzburg and Graz
The Association of Debating Societies at Universities (VDCH) has now grown to 73 debating societies. The umbrella association represents debating societies in Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Just recently two new debating societies from Austria have become members of VDCH. These are Debattierclub Graz and RedeSalz Salzburg.
Achte Minute is delighted to welcome two new members under the umbrella of VDCHand wishes the newly listed debating societies good luck for future events and tournaments - beginning with the German Debating Championship in June.

Registration for the German Debating Championship is open from now on! Debating societies which are members of VDCH (Verband der Debattierclubs an Hochschulen, engl. Association of Debating Societies at Universities) are allowed to register their teams for the biggest annual debating tournament in Germany. Teams from Germany itself, Switzerland, Austria and maybe even Italy are expected to participate. Registration details are published online, see www.ddm-heidelberg.de.
