Die Themen des Turniers im Überblick:

Round 1: This House Would grant labour unions the right to veto the deployment or use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Round 2: Infoslide: The WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) is an American company that produces scripted professional wrestling events. The outcomes of the match are pre-determined (but not known to audiences). Wrestlers are treated as independent contractors and not allowed to unionise, and are given strict character work on how they should work their matches and any scripted storylines. WWE also is the largest viewed wrestling media promotion globally, and thus does not allow its workers to operate with other promotions (unless WWE acquires them) or allow their workers to have any extra ventures unless those ventures are commercially signed to WWE. AEW (All Elite Wrestling) is also an American wrestling promotion that produces scripted professional wrestling events on TV and streaming. While also scripted, AEW allows wrestlers to be more independent in the way they approach their characters and their wrestling. Wrestlers are allowed to be more creative and athletic, while also having opportunities to work with other wrestling companies, promotions and even other business ventures such as Twitch streaming.

This House, as an up and coming wrestler, Would join the AEW over the WWE.

Round 3: Infoslide: Pim Fortuyn was a gay populist anti-immigration right wing politician that was the leader and founder of the party LPF (Lijst Pim Fortuyn) in 2002. Pim Fortuyn saw Islam as an extraordinary threat and as a hostile religion. He was assassinated during the 2002 National Dutch election by Volkert van der Graaf, a left-wing environmentalist and animal rights activist.

This House Believes That the assassination of Pim Fortuyn has done more harm than good to the Dutch right.

Round 4: Infoslide: The United Nations (UN) formally classifies the world’s most structurally disadvantaged nations as Least Developed Countries (LDCs). LDCs receive support measures in the form of developmental aid, lenient international trade rules, and non-reciprocal market access. Nepal is due to graduate from LDC status in November 2026, where it will be classified as a part of the Developing Countries (DCs). In an attempt to prepare for its graduation, Nepal’s Commerce Policy 2025 hopes to establish reciprocal international trade agreements, diversify the domestic economy, and improve market compliance. A decision to delay a country’s graduation from LDC status must be approved by the UN.

Assuming UN approval, This House Supports a significant delay (>3 years) to the graduation of Nepal’s LDC status.

Round 5: Infoslide: The Dutch, Belgian, and Luxembourg football leagues are domestic football leagues featuring clubs in the respective countries, such as PSV, Royal Antwerp, Club Brugge, and Ajax. These leagues are completely independent from the countries‘ national teams or the European Champions League.

This House Would merge the Dutch, Belgian and Luxembourg football leagues over remaining independent.

ESL Final: Infoslide: You and your very close friends of have uploaded your consciousness to the internet. You have been enjoying your lives on the internet for the last 8 years. Your father has uploaded his consciousness to the internet and has found you. He tells you your mother has passed, and asks you to return back to reality. He immediately vanishes by returning back to reality himself. You must make a choice at that present moment. If you choose to stay in the internet, you will forget about your life in reality and never be able to go back. If you choose to go back, you will remember you life in the internet, but will not be able to upload yourself onto it again. Your friends are not aware of your predicament.

This House Believes That you have a higher moral duty to stay in the internet than to return to reality.

Partial Quarterfinals: Infoslide: The EU Migration and Asylum Pact is a package of reforms that aims to create a more uniform European system for handling migration and asylum applications. There are two main areas of reform: (1) more robust border management, such as the collection of migrants‘ biometric data and a pipeline for returns on applicants deemed unlikely to qualify for asylum; (2) a flexible responsibility-sharing framework where each EU member country chooses how to contribute  to border management according to its own capacity. Contributions may be in the form of (a) accepting and housing asylum seekers, or (b) offering financial or logistical support to frontline member countries.

This House Believes That the EU Migration and Asylum Pact will do more harm than good to asylum seekers and refugees.

Semifinals: Infoslide: Human-like consciousness is the capacity for a subject to (a) intentionally select, deliberate, and introspect goals, (b) justify, initiate, and reject actions, and (c) assume responsibility for those actions.

This House Believes That artificial intelligence will never attain human-like consciousness.

Grand Final: Infoslide: Anatta is a Buddhist doctrine stating there is no permanent self. Under Anatta, the self consists of a constantly changing body, soul, and consciousness. Followers of Anatta believe attachment to a permanent self is seen as the root of suffering, and liberation (Nirvana) comes through realising the constantly changing nature of life and the self. In practice, it looks like avoiding attachment to relationships, being materially minimalist, and believing one’s self is never truly „fixed“. Śassata-vāda (eternalism) is a doctrine stating the self is everlasting, unchanging, and absolute. Followers of Śassata-vāda believe the only way to achieve true liberation is through self-realisation by seeking out the meaning of one’s internal identity. In practice, it looks like the pursuit of desire and active experimentation to discover what speaks most truly to one’s „fixed“ self.

This House Prefers A World where the dominant doctrine of belief is Anatta over Śassata-vāda.
