37 Debating Societies from Germany, Austria and Switzerland have registered for the German Debating Championship (Deutsche Debattiermeisterschaft, DDM). Theses are societies from: Germany Aix-la-Chapelle Bayreuth Berlin (BDU and SK) Bonn Cologne Dortmund Dresden Duisburg-Essen Frankfurt Freiburg im Breisgau Göttingen Halle Hamburg Heidelberg Ingolstadt Jena Karlsruhe Kiel Leipzig Magdeburg Mainz Mannheim Marburg Munich Münster Osnabrück Potsdam Regensburg Stuttgart Tübingen Austria Graz Salzburg Wien (AFA and DK) Switzerland St. Gallen Zurich The German debating Championship will be staged in Heidelberg from 9 to 12 June. Format will be the Open Parliamentary Debate (OPD) widely spread in the German speaking debating circuit. The Debating Club Heidelberg (DCH), then German debating champion in 2004, will now be host to Germany’s largest tournament. Chief adjudicators are going to be Gudrun Lux, Jan Lüken, Marcus Ewald and Tim Richter.

Registration for the German Debating Championship is open from now on! Debating societies which are members of VDCH (Verband der Debattierclubs an Hochschulen, engl. Association of Debating Societies at Universities) are allowed to register their teams for the biggest annual debating tournament in Germany. Teams from Germany itself, Switzerland, Austria and maybe even Italy are expected to participate. Registration details are published online, see www.ddm-heidelberg.de. The German Debating Championship will be staged in Heidelberg from 9 to 12 June 2011. We proudly present the winners of this year's German regionals: Heidelberg won the Western German regional. Potsdam won the Eastern German regional. Kiel won the Northern German regional. The Debating Club Heidelberg announced the German Debating Championship's complete CA team.  Former VDCH-president and Western German Champion of 2008 Tim Richter from the Debattierclub Bonn will join the already announced Chief adjudicators Gudrun Lux (Debattierclub Bonn), Jan Lüken (WFI Debattierclub Ingolstadt) and Marcus Ewald (DCJG Mainz). Heidelberg is going to be stage to the German Debating Championship (DDM) 2011, so many debaters in Germany see the Baden-Württembergian Open (BaWü) 2010 as a kind of dress rehearsal for DDM 2011. But superstitious minds in Germany have it that traditionally the dress rehearsal has to be a terrible disaster – if the real event shall be fine. However, neither the grouches nor the superstitious could find anything to mock about at BaWü 2010 last weekend. For the Baden-Württembergian Championship (BaWü), teams from Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Tübingen and Stuttgart flock to Heidelberg. But since BaWü is an open competition, teams from Bayreuth, Frankfurt/Main, Göttingen, Jena, Mainz, München and St. Gallen followed the invitation of Debating Club Heidelberg (DCH) - 21 teams are going to be fighting for the championship. The Debattierclub Stuttgart (DCS) took part in a cultural event called Stuttgartnacht, Stuttgart Night. Together with Rederei Heidelberg, DCS battled in a night long debate marathon and discussed motions like "Should Swabian become official languge?" or "Should history be manipulated to teach moral lessons?".
