Debating League of Europe launched

Austrian Debating Championship ÖDM 2013
Have you ever been to Salzburg? Well, you should visit the beautiful austrian city. A good oportunity to do so could be the Austrian Debating Championship, in German Österreichische Debattiermeisterschaft or ÖDM.
The Tournament is to be held on february 8 to 10. Language of the tournament is German, the format will be OPD. At least 15 teams can participate. The tournament is an open. Chief adjudicators are Salzburgs very own KayMichael Dankl and Nicolas Eberle from Mainz. Registration will be able from october on.

Save the date: March 9 to 11! On these three days, the Vienna IV 2012 is going to take place as Debattierklub Wien announced. Further details will be promoted on Achte Minute as soon as possible. This year, Austin Schwartz and Travis Steele won the Vienna IV final as Colgate Extra White from the position of Opening Government on the motion "This house believes that parties’ electoral campaigns should only be funded by the state". Their counterparts were Galatasaray, Heidelberg and Belgrade. The final is also available online.

Women’s Open in Jena
The first ever women-only tournament on German soil: It's going to take place in Jena from August 17 to 19. Please read more on the tournament in the German version of this article and join the fierce debate on positive and negative discrimination, the advantages/disadvantages of affirmative action and add to the ongoing discussion in the comment section below.

New VDCH members: Salzburg and Graz
The Association of Debating Societies at Universities (VDCH) has now grown to 73 debating societies. The umbrella association represents debating societies in Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Just recently two new debating societies from Austria have become members of VDCH. These are Debattierclub Graz and RedeSalz Salzburg.
Achte Minute is delighted to welcome two new members under the umbrella of VDCHand wishes the newly listed debating societies good luck for future events and tournaments - beginning with the German Debating Championship in June.

Debating march 2011 starting in Austria: Vienna IV
Vienna calling: Following that call are debaters from all over the international debating circuit. From Friday to Sunday, the Austrian capital will see speakers and judges flocking in from the Netherlands, Ukraine, Greece, Slovenia, Germany, Turkey, Romania, Serbia, England, Ireland, Russia, Croatia, Macedonia, France, Kosovo and the USA. The all assemble at the first Vienna IV ever to be held by Debattierklub Wien (DKW). Six prelims will be staged at Vienna’s University of Economics and Business with seven-minute speeches. Vienna IV 2011: Registration open from today
Registration for the Vienna IV is now open - save your spot for the first international intervarsity in Austria, to be held March 4th to 6th, 2011.
The participation fee is 30 Euros per person (speakers and adjudicators), which includes accommodation at the youth hostel Brigittenau and all meals. Debates will be held in English, under the rules of British Parliamentary Style.
To register, send an email to info[at]debattierklubwien.at with the following information: Institution, number of teams, number of judges, and contact details. Institution may send adjudicators, but there is no obligation to do so. The team cap per institution is three. ...

New executive board in Vienna
In today's general assembly, the Debattierklub Wien elected a new executive board. Leonhard Weese, who lead the club through the last year, will remain as chairman of the board. He is flanked by Jakob Reiter as secretary, Melanie Sindelar as press secretary and Stefan Zweiker as treasurer.

Vienna Debating Workshop um Übungsturnier erweitert
Der Debattierklub Wien will gelerntes sofort in die Praxis umsetzen und dehnt den bereits angekündigten Vienna Debating Workshop auf zwei Tage aus, um am zweiten Tag ein Übungsturnier zu veranstalten. Der Workshop wird dementsprechend am 12. und 13. Juni stattfinden.
Der VDCH-Club konnte zudem neben Manos Moschopoulos, der bei den Weltmeisterschaften 2010 als bestbewerteter ESL-Redner der Vorrunden abgeschnitten hatte, zwei weitere international erfahrene Trainer gewinnen. Gemeinsam mit Manos werden Milan Vignjevic und Lio Kaufman nach Wien kommen, um Vorträge zu halten, wie man an Debatten herangeht, wie man eine Rede sowie Argumente aufbaut ...
